My Favorite Oscar Moments:
- Lady Gaga’s incredible tribute to The Sound of Music (only complete by the presence of the wonderful Julie Andrews).
- Watching Eddie Redmayne’s adorable Best Actor acceptance speech.
- The Lego Oscar.
- The moving beauty that was Glory.
- Birdman taking home the big prize (exciting, but not clip worthy).
So, why mention the Oscars in a blog all about reading, writing, and editing? It’s a fair question, but I believe the answer is a simple one: movies are stories. And great movies have great characters, plots, and dialogue. Part of how I learn how to write stories is to watch great stories.
My challenge for you: watch an Oscar-nominated film and take some notes. Even the best can learn a thing or two.
